The assay of tritium-labelled folate in faeces by the oxygen flask combustion technique followed by liquid scintillation counting.

چکیده
The assay of tritium-labelled substances in faeces requires conversion of tritium into either tritium gas (Payne and Done, 1958) or tritium-labelled water. Belcher (1961) and Kremenchuzky, Musso, Hoffbrand, and Viola (1967) used wet oxidation of faeces followed by liquid scintillation counting, while Burns and Glass (1963) used dry oxidation in a bomb calorimeter. There is a need for a reproducible and relatively sensitive means of measuring tritium activity in tissues and materials such as faeces. This method was developed in order to measure intestinal absorption of tritium-labelled compounds such as folic acid and its analogues and is a modification of the oxygen-flask combustion technique developed by Schoniger (1955). The Radioactivity and Dose Assessment of Radioacarbon and Tritium in Graphite Waste Samples of the KRR-2
The radioactivity of C and H in graphite samples from the dismantled Korea Research Reactor-2 (the KRR-2) site was analyzed by high-temperature oxidation and liquid scintillation counting, and the graphite waste was suggested to be disposed of as a low-level radioactive waste. The graphite samples were oxidized at a high temperature of 800 degrees centigrade, and their counting rates were measu...
متن کاملAn improved method for Organic Bound Tritium (OBT) determination in urine samples.
The Organic Bound Tritium (OBT) amount in the body may induce changes in the evaluation of the internal exposure to tritium, due to its different retention time relative to HTO. OBT measurements for urine are not performed routinely, mainly because of the lengthy work needed in preparation of the samples, when using the standard oxygen combustion method. A simpler and more rapid method based on...

Ž . The absorption, metabolism, and excretion of dietary aflatoxin B AFB by trout given 1 1 different diets were compared. Fish were fed one of two diets: an AFB contaminated basal diet or 1 the contaminated basal diet with 2% sodium bentonite. Urine, feces, and gill excretions were collected and analyzed separately over a 7-day test period. On completion of the feeding trials, the fish were eu...
متن کاملRadioassay of Low Specific Activity Tritiated Water by Improved Liquid Scintillation Techniques
THE liquid scintillation technique has achieved considerable popularity as a radioassay method for tritiated water because it combines ease of sample preparation with adequate counting efficiency. However, for low specific activity samples, i.e. samples producing a count approaching that of background, counting times become long and the advantages of the technique become marginal. The purpose o...
متن کاملMeasurement of iodine concentration in biological material.
Determination of iodine in biological material presents technical problems because of the large amounts of organic material present and because the concentration of iodine is often low. Many workers have used a chloric acid-digestion procedure (1), but this is tedious, and Richmond (2) found it less satisfactory for accurate measurement of fecal iodine than for determining iodine in serum or ur...
